'Doctor Bill'. 

Jack Tippit was a gag cartoonist from Texas for all of the major magazines including the New Yorker, Look, and the Saturday Evening Post. After attending the Lubbock (Texas) public school, he went to Texas Technological College before transferring to Syracuse University, where he got his degree in Fine Arts. During World War II, he served in the Air Force for four years, doing 46 combat missions as a B-24 pilot in the South West Pacific. During the Korean War, he also served as a jet pilot.

In 1963 and 1966, Tippit won the National Cartoonists Society Gag Cartoons Award. In 1961, Harry Mace created the gag-a-day comic 'Amy'. Tippit became an assistant on the comic early on. When Mace fell ill and died in December 1963, Tippit took 'Amy' over and continued it until 1991. The series occasionally ran under the different title 'Our Girl Army' too. Tippit received the NCS Newspaper Panels Award for it in 1970.

In the 1960s, Tippit also created the daily 'Doctor Bill' strip and worked with Frank Johnson on 'Sergeant Pepper'. Between 1979 and 1983, Tippit took over the 'Henry' strip from John Liney
