Comic strip by Thomaz De Mello, 1936.
Thomaz de Mello (Tom) was a Portuguese comic artist and painter. He was the most prominent comic contributor to the magazine A Voz in the 1920s. For this magazine, he made the series 'Tiroliro'. For Diáro da Manhã, he created the comic 'Rico, Pico e Sarapico'. In the 1930s, his work appeared in O Papagaio. His work is characterized by its two-dimensionality and lack of perspective.
Thomaz de Mello, who signed with Tom, should not be confused with Spanish/Catalan comic artist Tom (Antonio Roca Palacios) (1953), nor with German comic artist Tom (pseudonym of Thomas Körner) (1960).
