Mike Western has worked in British comics since the 1950s. He was an artist for the Fleetway and IPC agencies. He began his career with several short stories in Buster. He did among others 'H.M.S. Nightshade', 'Sarge' for IPC's Battle Action Force, the superhero comic 'The Leopard from Lime Street' for Buster and 'The Avenger' for Eagle. He also did 'Wild Wonders' in Valiant, 'Johnny Wingco' in Knockout, 'No Hiding Place' and 'Biggles' in TV Express, 'Darkies Mob' in Battle and the daily 'Roy of the Rovers' strip in the Daily Star. He took over the 'Billy's Boots' comic from John Gillatt. 'Biggles', based on W.E. Johns' popular aviation novels have been adapted into comic strips by other artists too, like Pim van Boxsel, Albert De Vine, Rob Embleton, Ola Ericson, Gote Goransson, Guicha, Roger Melliès, Maurice Rondepierre, Alfred Sindall and Willy Vandersteen.
