'Tom und Klein Biberherz' (Fix und Foxi #574, 1966).
The German creator known only as "M. Becker" was one of the artists working for the short-lived comic magazine 'Max + Molly' (1964), as well as Rolf Kauka's 'Tom und Klein Biberherz' feature.
Life and career
Not much is known about the person behind the signature M. Becker, except that she was a woman and came from Strasbourg. In 1964, she was affiliated with the Atelier Reindl Dachsel, which provided the content for the comic book 'Max + Molly', published by Libro-Verlag. While most of the comics in that magazine were created by former artists of Rolf Kauka's 'Fix und Foxi' studio, M. Becker seems to have no further background in comics.
In Max + Molly, she was one of the artists for the title feature, starring the teenagers Max, Molly and Kilian. Her signature appeared in one of the panels in issue #41. Among the other artists for this feature were Heinz Körner, Vlado Magdic and Werner Hierl. In issues #20 through #29, Becker also drew 'Pit und Petra', a one-page feature about a young couple, drawn in a semi-realistic style. Appearing weekly between April and December 1964, Max + Molly magazine was short-lived.
In 1966-1967, M. Becker also drew two serials of Rolf Kauka's western series 'Tom und Klein Biberherz' in Fix und Foxi magazine. Her serials, '...und es pfeifen die Pistolen' (issues #571-575) and 'Sieg in Whisky-Town' (issues #609-613), appeared in alternation with serials by the comic's regular artist, Vlado Magdic. Together with Maria Luisa Uggetti and Sieglinde Sander, the mysterious "Frau Becker" was one of the few female artists working for Rolf Kauka during the early period. She was however not the Becker in another mysterious Kauka creator team, the duo Becker-Kasch.
Since the late 1960s, no further whereabouts of M. Becker are known.
