comic art by Marco Kuijpers
'Kwaad Bloed'.

Marco Kuipers formed Studio AAARCH!!! in Amsterdam, together with Marcel de Jong. The two of them became good friends at the IVKO (Individueel Voortgezet Kunstzinnig Onderwijs), where they almost immediately started working on comics like 'Pisa' and 'Magnum'. All the while, Marcel and Marco produced impressive amounts of graphic work: dozens of magazine covers, comix (Incognito, P.O.S.S.E.), murals and, most of all, freestyle graphix.

The year 1999 brought AAARCH!!! Comics: their first Dutch comic with 'Kwaad Bloed' in the Incognito series. De Jong and Kuipers continued their collaboration with 'Sadie: Love = Misery²' (Dark Media Uitgaven, 2000) and 'Als De Duisternis...' (Silvester, 2002). Later on, Kuipers continued to work under the AAARCH!!! label on his own, since 2008 mainly as a tattoo artist in Purmerend. Kuipers' comics have appeared in Hitkrant, Spits and Metro. He is also the creator of the "Flügel-Duck", the mascot of the party drink Flügel. A fan of Anthony Barbieri, Bill Wray and, later, Tom Fowler's comic series 'Monroe' in Mad, Kuipers sent a fan letter to the magazine, published in issue #485 (January 2008), with a photograph of a figurine he had made of Monroe.

Remarkable for their detailed and romantic counterculture images, the AAARCH!!! team builds on the Dutch underground comix tradition, most notably the work of its godfather, Peter Pontiac.
