Samedi et Dimanche, by Gwen (Gwénaël de Bonneval)
Samedi et Dimanche

Gwen de Bonneval, also known as simply Gwen, was born as Gwénaël de Bonneva in Nantes. He spent most of his childhood in Paris, and then went to Lyon, where he got his degree in Literature. He began his career doing illustrations for the children's press, and for communication projects. He began free-lancing in 1995, and his work started appearing in Spirou and Le Journal de Mickey.

He joined the Vosges atelier in 1998, where he specialized in comics and teamed up with writer Fabien Vehlmann. This resulted in the series 'Samedi et Dimanche', that he made under his first name, and was published in four books by Dargaud between 2001 and 2005. By 2002, he joined another atelier, where he worked alongside Matthieu Bonhomme. He also turned to writing, and worked for Delcourt Jeunesse on such children's comics as 'Basile Bonjour' (2001-2004) and 'Monsieur Forme' (2003). He ventured into Greek mythology and scripted 'Gilgamesh', a comic for which Frantz Duchazeau provided the artwork at Dargaud in 2004 and 2005.

It was the first of several series that De Bonneval wrote for other artists. Between 2006 and 2009 he worked with Bonhomme on the adventure series 'Messire Guillaume' for Dupuis. He made 'Vladimir sur les toits' with Nicolas Hubesch for the Milan children's magazine Capsule Cosmique, and subsequently created '...et autres racontars' with Hervé Tanquerelle for Sarbacane (based on Jorn Riel stories, 2009-2013), 'Bonneval Pacha' with Hugues Micol for Dargaud (about one of his ancestors, 2012-2013), 'Adam et Elle' for Michaël Sterckeman for Glénat (2012-2013) and 'Varulf' with Hugo Piette for Gallimard (since 2013). He teamed up with Vehlmann again for the science fiction comic book 'Les derniers jours d'un immortel' (Futuropolis, 2010).
