Born in Boise, Idaho, Laurence Knighton served in the US Marine Corps from 1967 to 1970, and studied at the Art Center College of Design. He worked extensively in the advertising field. He worked on Gordon Bess' 'Redeye' comic strip from 1988 to 1990. He then succeeded Pete Alvarado on the 'Donald Duck' newspaper strip, which he did from July 1990 to April 1995.
He worked briefly as a storyboard artist on Disney's 'Duck Tales', and then became the originator, artist and designer of Red Robin international corporate mascot, 'Red' until 2001. He is assistant writer and illustrator of Stephen Cosgrove's young adult book series 'Bit'n Files' and Cosgrove's children's books series, 'Rhymerlings'. He has also done illustrations for educational books, as well as text and art for children's fantasy books.
