Richard Klokkers was one of the earliest staff artists of the Toonder studios, together with Wim Lensen and Frits Godhelp. Klokkers never drew a strip of his own, but he has worked as an artist and inker on nearly all the famous Toonder comics.
Klokkers was born in Amsterdam, and studied to become a lithographer. He worked in a printing company, until he joined Toonder/Geesink studios in 1943. He worked at the animation department, and learned the finers points of the profession from Henk Kabos, Geertje Knoef and Cees van de Weert. He began working on the comics after the War.
He cooperated on the daily and weekly 'Tom Poes' strips, 'Kappie', 'Hollewijn' and 'Panda'. He rebuilt the texts comics to balloon strips for foreign publications. He also drew for the Tom Poes Weekblad, the Belgian magazine Pumpum and the Swedish series 'Pelle Svanslös'. Klokkers has drawn various episodes of 'Olle Kapoen' with texts by Phiny Dick.
He cooperated with Wim Lensen on the coloring of the 'Tom Poes' strips for Donald Duck and Revue, and he drew the backgrounds for the 'Aafje Anders' strip. Together with Jaap Lamberton, he has done the backgrounds on some episodes of 'Arman en Ilva'. Richard Klokkers has also done illustrations for Bobo.
