Pieter De Poortere studied illustration at the Sint-Lucas in Ghent. He contributed cartoons to magazine Humo, and made his comic debut in 2000 with 'Boerke'. An album appeared in 2001, and it was awarded the Dutch Stripschapspenning for its original combination of naive graphic style and cruel jokes. Pieter De Poortere also made the theater/comic play 'K.A.K.' in 2002, together with actor Han Coucke and composer Joris Schoenmaekers. 'Boerke' has also appeared in an english edition, titled 'Dickie'.
