Maarten Gerritsen was ready to begin his career as copywriter or concept developer in the advertising field after finishing his education in Communication in Eindhoven in 2004. However, he found employment with Studio Jan Kruis and became one of the artists of the classic Dutch family comic 'Jan, Jans en de Kinderen', amidst his fellow studio workers Rob Phielix, Gerben Valkema, Peter Nuyten and Michiel van de Vijver. Gerritsen is mainly involved in the pencilling of the weekly page for Libelle. When the studio closed down in 2007, Gerritsen continued to work on the comic on a freelance base.
