Noortje, written by Patty Klein

Patty Klein is one of the prolific scriptwriters of comics in The Netherlands. She started her career in 1966, when she took a job at the Marten Toonder Studios after quitting her biology studies. Together with Andries Brandt, she wrote for nearly all Toonder's productions of the time. She worked on strips like 'Horre, Harm en Hella', 'Panda', 'Ole en Kreutel', 'Bartje en Opa' and 'Polletje Pluim', but also on assignments for the foreign market (Kauka's 'Fix und Foxi' in Germany and 'Pelle Svanslös' in Sweden) and Toonder's production of Disney and Hanna-Barbera stories.

After only a couple of years, she left Toonder and began writing for other clients, such as Geesink Artists, Oberon publishers and the magazines Pep ('Baron van Tast' for Jan van Haasteren), Sjors ('Distel' with Børge Ring, 'Sjors en Sjimmie' for Robert van der Kroft), Okki ('Annemoon' with Piet Wijn), the KRO Gids ('Sjaak en Oom George' with Jan van Haasteren) and Tina (many series). She was one of the driving forces behind the rebel comics magazine De Vrije Balloen, which started in 1975.

In that same year, she created the gag strip about the teenage girl 'Noortje', which she still makes with Jan Steeman for the magazine Tina. For several years during the 1990s, she wrote the 'Schanulleke' gag strip for Eric De Rop in Suske en Wiske Weekblad. At the moment, besides writing 'Noortje', Patty is mainly active in poetry, which she does under the name Patty Scholten (the family name of her ex-husband). In 2006, she began a new strip with Gerard Leever for the magazine Camé, 'Ria en Rinus'.
